Redefining design with history and art

By M.Chaves

Redefining design

It all began with Casa 110 Interior Design. Over the years, while working on interior design projects across Europe, the United States, and Latin America, I noticed a recurring pattern: high-quality furniture and objects, rich in history and character, were being discarded simply because they no longer fit current design trends. Not because they were damaged or beyond use, but because the market, in its relentless pursuit of the new, had cast them aside.

That’s when the idea for Atelier 110 was born. This is not just a vintage furniture restoration project—it is so much more. It is a design concept that blends craftsmanship, innovation, and sustainability to transform pieces with history into unique, functional objects tailored for contemporary living.

Beyond Restoration: A New Identity for Every Piece

When we come across a piece with potential, we don’t merely restore it to its original state. At Atelier 110, we reimagine it. We experiment with textures, colours, sustainable materials, and artisanal techniques to give it a new identity while preserving its essence.

Each piece that passes through our hands is an opportunity to fuse the past with the present. We like to think of it as a form of circular design: instead of creating from scratch, we take something that already exists and elevate it to a new level. The result is not just a functional piece but a work of art with soul, history, and purpose (redefining design).

Sustainability with an Artistic Vision

The environmental impact of discarded furniture is immense. In Europe alone, over 10 million tonnes of furniture waste are generated each year. A significant portion of these items end up in landfills when, with a little creativity and vision, they could have been given a second life.

At Atelier 110, we believe that sustainable design should not compromise beauty or quality. We use premium materials, collaborate with expert carpenters and upholsterers, and commit to responsible processes that honour both the environment and the heritage of each piece.

A New Approach to Contemporary Interiors

Integrating pieces with history into modern spaces is an art in itself. It is not simply about placing a restored chair in a minimalist living room; it is about creating contrast, fostering dialogue between old and new, and adding warmth and character to spaces that might otherwise feel impersonal.

At Atelier 110, every piece is treated as a gem. We do not engage in mass production or follow fleeting trends. Instead, we are redefining  design with intention, creating pieces that stand the test of time—both in quality and aesthetics.

A Philosophy for the Future of Design

Atelier 110 is a natural extension of Casa 110 Interior Design and my own approach to interior spaces. It is not just about designing beautiful interiors, but about doing so with awareness—respecting materials, history, and the artistry behind every object.

Our mission is clear: to rescue, transform, and integrate pieces with history into contemporary design, promoting a new way of inhabiting space—one that is more sustainable, more authentic, and more meaningful.

The first Atelier 110 collection is slowly taking shape—born from a deep respect for craftsmanship, memory, and the quiet power of objects with a past. It’s a process guided by curiosity and intention, and I look forward to sharing it with you soon. In the meantime, stay close. More details will be available on the website shortly.

If you believe that spaces should tell stories—and that design can be both thoughtful and alive—then Atelier 110 might feel like home.
